This antique Japanese abacus measures 33cmx 11 cm x 3 cm deep and is made of solid wood. The outside case is made of oak wood and the bead shafts are made of bamboo There are counting related kanji carved along the top bar.
The casing is put together with dove tail joints and the thick base wood has some nails. It was made around the Taisho Era (before 1930’s). the bead count for soroban was a 5/1 count. After 1930 the bead count became a 4/1 count.
